If you are destroying the hopper minecarts, it's not actually 100% renewable. You'll run out of hopper minecarts to pick up items and buckets. Also, you really should set up item filters for hoppers, buckets, and minecarts. No matter what items you are smelting, those will always come through the system.

Could you have a trapped snow golem and skeleton, and instead of the arrow contraption, just have a skeleton continuously shooting arrows into cobwebs in front of the golem so that when a minecart passes through it gets in the way of the arrow, and when the minecart isn't there, the arrow gets stuck in the cobweb and destroyed with lava or something?
